This year’s Tokyo Motor Show hasn’t even happened yet and it’s already making the news. October 27, through November 5, 2017, the world’s biggest and baddest automakers will show their stuff. However, Yamaha is already making waves with their radically-designed, crazy-futuristic motorcycle, the MOTOROiD.

The specs of the futuristic concept motorcycle haven’t been made public yet, but what we do know leaves us itching for more. And if we take a look at the history of Yamaha, we know they won't disappoint. From what we can tell, though, the Yamaha MOTOROiD doesn’t run with a typical motor. Instead, there are six cylindrical batteries that say “Caution: High Voltage” where the engine usually is located. The concept bike is powered by an electric motor in the rear hub.

The futuristic bike also has a unique rear suspension with the shock mounted below the swingarm, while the pistol grip steering system has an unclear connection to the front fork. The bodywork is minimalistic, radical; its clean lines and angles enhance the future-look of the machine. The MOTOROiD could possibly ride the same way as today’s hoverboards. It has a cafe racer riding position that places winglets at the rear of the seat and touches the rider’s hips.

Here’s where it gets crazy. Yamaha has told us that its technology allows the bike to interact with the rider as if it were alive. That’s right, the motorcycle’s most incredible feature is its artificial intelligence that, as Yamaha said, “explores the feasibility of concepts for creating new forms of personal mobility in which the rider resonates harmoniously with the machine. [The MOTOROiD] is capable of recognizing its owner and interacting in other capacities like a living creature.”

The whole concept of the Yamaha MOTOROiD was designed with the Japanese “Kando”-- meaning intense excitement that we experience when we encounter something of exceptional value. The idea is to create a motorcycle with enough artificial intelligence that it will have the power to simulate an emotional response when you arrive home or go for a ride.

Hmm, part motorcycle, and part dog? A two-wheeled, electric-powered pet? I don’t know about you, but I prefer the real deal. Like an actual dog who rides motorcycles.

After the success of Tesla and other electric powered vehicles, it seems everyone is jumping on the electric-powered bandwagon. Even our own beloved Harley-Davidson has revealed an electric-powered concept motorcycle, Project Livewire, and it sent Harley lifers like myself running for their pitchforks. As a classic Harley lover, I’m inclined to start my own pitchfork emporium to help supply the demand.

The future is here, my friends. What do you think? Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts on the MOTOROiD.
